Visiting Hendricks County

I enjoy checking out new places (which you can probably tell from reading this blog) and I'm thrilled to be a part of the blogging team over at Hendricks County Convention & Visitors Bureau's All Access Blog.

I don't live in Hendricks County- so what you'll see in my articles is Hendricks County from a visitor's perspective. In the past few weeks I've had the opportunity to see so much in Hendricks County.  And let me tell ya, there is a lot to do in Hendricks County and I'm having a blast checking out many of the towns in Hendricks County (including Avon, Brownsburg, Coatesville, Danville, Jamestown, North Salem, Pittsboro and Plainfield... that's not all of the towns)

Learning to Fly Fish

I recently completed two fly fishing courses -- taught by Orvis (and free!).  Fly fishing 101 took place out in the parking lot across from Orvis, where the class (about 15 of us) practiced fly-casting (which is a bit tricky).   We also learned a variety of ways to tie fishing knots (also tricky!).  Although I love to fish - I'd never been fly fishing before.  It's so relaxing.  Really.

My dad took the classes with me - even though he's a skilled fisherman.  (btw, my grandfather is a serious fisherman and my great-grandfather was as well-- so I've gotta honor the tradition).

I snapped the photo above at the 201 class- which took place on the grounds of the Monon Center in Carmel.  That's not me in the photo.  I think this is a very cool women's fishing outfit.  It inspired me to be on the lookout for a cool hat and some lightweight capri pants. 
 

But back to fly fishing.  There are lots of places to fly fish in Indy-- Eagle Creek, White River, just to name a few.  Here's a list of public fishing sites (via Indiana Department of Natural Resources).

If any of you are fisherman-- I'd love to know your thoughts on the best places to fish in the Indy area or maybe within an hour's drive.
