Westfield, Indiana
When it's cold and snowy outside I take full advantage of staying in (as much as possible), hanging out, cooking (this weekend I made broccoli cheddar soup, & tonight- homemade pizza), sitting in front of the fire and catching up on TV shows and movies. Here are a few TV shows and movies I've enjoyed (I'm watching some football too)...and a few I'm looking forward to. Hope you're enjoying your Sunday evening.
TV
Downton Abbey Sundays, Masterpiece Theatre, PBS. I dig most English TV shows and movies...I chalk it up to my English Great-Gram and a summer studying abroad in England and Ireland. "Downton Abbey" is beautifully filmed and I'm swept up in all the drama... Mr. Bates & Anna, & Matthew & Lady Mary, the always awesome Maggie Smith, and that damned war!
Golden Globe Awards, tonight, Sunday, January 15th, NBC. Awards season is here. I love seeing celebs strut the red carpet and this awards show mix of TV and movie celebs keeps me thinking that January is almost over and spring isn't too far off:) I'm a Brit "The Office" fan and was ho-hum over Ricky Gervais' performance-- but hey, that's what second chances are for.
HGTV I'm addicted to "House Hunters" and "House Hunters International". Sometimes I want to scream if I hear the words "open floor concept" or "granite countertops" but mainly it's a treat to see how people live and where they want to live. It's like one big sociological experiment. Question: Has there been a House Hunters Indy show?
ME-TV Network (Memorable Entertainment Television). There are all kinds of old school TV shows on ME-TV, including "Columbo", "Rockford Files", "That Girl", "The Beverly Hillbillies", "The Bob Newhart Show", "The Twilight Zone", & "The Wild Wild West" (just to mention a few).
Coming soon:
Untouchable, January 21st, Lifetime. Rob Lowe with a crazy wig and mustache & Chicago-style accent- playing Drew Peterson. Yep, it's slightly trash TV, but I'm a Rob Lowe fan and look forward to seeing him camp it up and go totally over-the-top.
Mad Men, March 25th, AMC. Finally, Don Draper and the gang are back!
Movies
Jane Eyre I've seen a lot of Jane Eyre adaptations--and really enjoyed this take on Jane Eyre-- especially the will they kiss/won't they chemistry between the brooding, older, Mr. Rochester (Michael Fassbender) and the young governess, Jane (Mia Wasikowska). *bonus: lots of gothic-looking scenery and filmed in England.
Margin Call I was riveted by this movie, supposedly based on Lehman Bros and right before the financial meltdown. The movie is much like a play with lots of dialogue. The ending is a bit abrupt, but it's a very good movie with excellent performances by Zachary Quinto, Stanley Tucci, Kevin Spacey, Simon Baker,& Jeremy Irons (who does sleaze so well).
The Descendants I'm a fan of Alexander Payne's and George Clooney's and I liked this movie-- although it's not a comedy (as I've seen it billed). George Clooney's character is a husband and father, who is independently wealthy, but works all the time and isn't around much. He gets knocked on his face by life and the messiness of it and is forced to start being a father. One day can change everything.
