A few weeks back I enjoyed a lovely dinner with my Aunt E, Uncle K and my parents (and I wanted to share a few highlights with you). E and K suggested Brugge Brasserie (one of their favorite haunts) and added it was their treat. No real celebration— a Saturday night dinner. And, really, who needs a reason to clink glasses of wine/beer and share a meal with family. I’m in.
Now, I know what you're thinking-- Saturday night in Broad Ripple-- no way can you get into Brugge... I was a bit skeptical, but E and K arrived a few minutes early and requested a table, and so we waited a mere 10 minutes. Easy! Plenty of time for me to taste E's beer and do a bit of people watching.
It had been a while since my last visit to Brugge and I was looking forward to noshing on moules frites (mussels and fries) and my parents and I decided to share them. There's plenty of mussels and fries in an order (about 2lbs of mussels) to split between three people.
We chose the tomato lemon cream preparation for the mussels and the mussels were so fresh and the sauce was light with chunks of tomatoes and perfect for dunking chunks of bread. The brothy/creamy-ish sauce was so delicious that I wanted to eat it with a spoon. I also dipped a fry or two or five in the sauce... Outstanding. Seriously.
E & K were beyond pleased with their crêpes (I tried the fish crêpe and it was so tasty, but I wanted to get back to the mussels-- so I didn't get to try K's crêpe) and I have to mention that I thoroughly enjoyed the appetizer- duck liver pâté, served with toasts, caramelized onions and apple slices. I prefer a creamier pâté and this was so smooth & lovely. Keep it in mind as an appetizer to share with a few glasses of wine.
And I completely forgot to snap a picture of their fries-- so here's one that I took a while back.
When you're deciding on your next cozy dinner with friends or family-- stop at Brugge Brasserie... and then after your meal, take a walk around Broad Ripple. So many new shops opening and always much to see! Brugge Brasserie, 1011 a E. Westfield Blvd., Indianapolis (317) 255-0978. Click on the link above for menu and other information.

We just love Brugge! The Pooka beer is amazing and who can resist mussels and pommes frites?
