I first heard about West Coast Tacos on Twitter. And if you're not on Twitter, sign up, already! If you're a foodie, you can follow your favorite restaurants and more importantly, find out where to find a taco truck in Indy. A good taco ranks up there as one of my favorite foods. But enough about that- let's get to the tacos.
I found out that West Coast Tacos would be on Broad Ripple Avenue, across from Chumley's Bar in the Cardinal Fitness parking lot.
a guy waiting patiently for tacos
carne asada tacos (grilled beef, cilantro, onions, and sauce) 3 tacos for $5.00
Let's get to the tacos. I immediately liked the way they looked- two small corn tortillas, a good portion of meat, onions, cilantro, and sauce. The first bite? Delicious (you know that "oh man these are good!" reaction? That would be me.) I loved that I could taste all of the ingredients well- the beef, the cilantro, crunch of the onions and the red sauce. Very tender beef (I imagine they marinade it for a while), quite juicy in fact and I loved the red sauce. I really loved the red sauce. I prefer a lot of spiciness (I'm always adding hot sauce to most everything) and this was just the right amount for me. If you don't like a lot of heat- I would recommend asking for just a little sauce or skipping altogether.
My Dad and I stood next to my car (with the trunk as a makeshift table) eating tacos and watching all of the activity in Broad Ripple. Within a few minutes the line at West Coast Tacos got longer and longer. I spotted a few people leaving Cardinal Fitness, post-workout and waiting in line for a taco. Who doesn't need a taco after a workout?
Right now only carne asada tacos are available. They're only 3 for $5.00. A great deal, if you ask me. There will be more tacos to come, like Korean tacos and the owners (who are from L.A.) told me they are trying out lots of recipes. I will be there to try any kind of taco they make. I could've easily eaten a few more tacos on my visit- they were that good.
Want to learn more about West Coast Tacos? Follow West Coast Tacos on Twitter to find out their locations. For the next few days- they'll be in the Cardinal Fitness parking lot (across from Chumley's) on Broad Ripple Avenue. They told me they'll be open during lunch and dinner, but you might want to send them a tweet to verify that. They're also on the web at The Best Damn Tacos or on Facebook.

Thanks for the heads up - I love that Indy is getting more food trucks with great options!

I had an order of 3 on Saturday night. They were excellent. Now granted, I had been drinking, so I was liable to enjoy whatever you put in front of me, but still, quality stuff.

They look good for sure, but what makes them "West Coast Tacos?"
Posted by: wibia | June 23, 2010 at 09:33 PM
@Wibia-- West Coast-- as in from LA. You're the taco expert-- so try 'em out and write about them. The steak ones I tried reminded me of El Pastorcito on Mich. -A

I can't believe all the meat on the tacos in your picture! When I stopped at the truck, I didn't get even half that much. 90% of my taco was tortilla. The meat wasn't all that good anyway... very tough steak and extremely dry chicken. Just terrible food. I heard great things about a spicy salsa, but their was no spice involved. Good cilantro flavor, but so highly overrated.
